#ShowUs 2019
As a little girl growing up, I didn't know that you could be so many different things. Even all at once.
The women in these photographs– Adz, Conch, and Jazmin– are great examples of women who take charge of their own story, constantly exploring new interests and developing different passions, even in fields traditionally dominated by men. There's no limit to what you can become, really. I just wish every girl realizes that. Which is why making diverse women more visible is something that I believe is very important.
I recently worked with Girlgaze, Getty Images and Dove for Project #ShowUs. Alongside 116 female-identifying and non-binary photographers across the world, we have photographed 179 diverse, beautiful and complex womxn who we believe represent the change we want to see in media and advertising. Our diverse photographic work is already available for licensing on Getty, so different kinds of women can feel more represented in the mainstream media landscape.
Adz – Paralympic powerlifting athlete (actually the first Filipina paralympic medalist), Philippine Paralympic Committee board member, mother, advocate for the differently abled, and teacher.
Conch – musician, writer, motorcyclist, and loving wife.
Jazmin – A young gender non-conforming university student, photojournalist, advertising creative, and music enthusiast.
